Managing Files 1 2 3 4 5 6

Scripts that organize or otherwise manipulate the actual files of tracks in the Finder.

Append Artist to Filename

This script renames the files of the selected tracks, appending the Artist name to the beginning of the filename, i.e: "The Ramones - Do You Wanna Dance.mp3".

Copy From Start to Stop v1.1

Makes a copy of the selected track using its Start and Stop times as the beginning and ending of the new file and adds to Library, with option to name new track/file. Works best with CD tracks. If using with file tracks, NOTE: you may experience some degradation of audio quality if you re-encode a compressed file (one which has already been encoded), and thus the quality of your copy may be a matter of taste. Mileage will vary.

Works as a fine companion to the script Player Position to Start or Stop, which sets the Start or Stop time of the currently loaded track to the time of the paused player position.

NOT Part of a Compilation

Some Greatest Hits collections contain tracks which have been designated as part of a compilation, even though the Artist of each track is the same. (iTunes' "Compilation" is not exactly synonymous with "Collection".) If you maintain a "Compilations" folder, and have set iTunes to "Keep iTunes Music folder organized", these Album folders will appear there and not in their respective Artist folder. Changing each track's Compilation setting to "No" will un-designate them as part of a compilation and allow iTunes to move the Album folder to the appropriate Artist folder.

This script goes through your entire library looking for such tracks and changes their Compilations setting accordingly.

addToLib v1.1

Applet that adds all files in a given folder to the iTunes Music Library and then (optionally) deletes the files from the source folder. Modification of an Apple iTunes AppleScript. Requires hard-coded user modifications, Read Me explains how.

Track Splicer

Sure, iTunes can join tracks, but only if they're consecutive CD tracks, and you haven't imported them. This script allows you to join any two (or more) MP3 tracks (repeat: MP3 tracks only), provided that they are the same format and bitrate.

Also see Join Together, an application that will join any type of files.

Put This Where I Want It v1.2

Copies the file(s) of the selected track(s) to a user-selected location outside of the Music folder. (Yes, you can drag-and-drop a file directly from iTunes, but one doesn't always have the intended folder open, does one?)

iTunes Track CPR v1.3

This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx). Any correct files found will be added to iTunes and will replace the "dead track" in each playlist it appears in (except Smart Playlists). Most tag data will also be rescued. Tracks whose files cannot be located will be ignored. Additionally, a text file report is generated that lists successfully resuscitated tracks and the tracks which couldn't be revived. Not a perfect solution! Read Me should be read thoroughly. iTunes 4.1 or better.

(Also see the application Music Folder Files Not Added.)

CD Manager v0.1

CD Manager helps you keep your iTunes library clean by managing MP3s that are on data CDs. iTunes normally does not mount such CDs the way it does Audio CDs, CD Manager simulates this behavior for data CDs as well. It is a simple script that when run will add a playlist to iTunes for every data CD in your Mac's drives. When you eject the CD and run the script again, it will remove the playlists and all the tracks it contained from the iTunes library.
